New camp coming up in September!

24 30.08. 2026

Dear Friends,

We have a new online camp coming up at the end of September. Between the 24th and the 27th of September, GM Renier Castellanos will explore the games of José Raúl Capablanca and his enormous influence on positional play.

Capablanca is often remembered as the great simplifier and endgame master, but his greatest strength was arguably his extraordinary positional understanding. His famous exchanges and effortless endgames were often the result of brilliant piece play, accurate evaluation and a deep understanding of strategy.

Training will start every day at 5 PM UK time and will include three sessions of 1 hour each. There will be two 15 minutes breaks between sessions. More details about the camp can be found here.

New and renewed yearly members between the 26th of June and the 24th of September will receive this camp for free, as a welcome gift. Everyone else who would like to take part in the camp will need to purchase the camp in our shop. The price for participating is €148 for existing members of Killer Chess Training and €297 for everyone else (includes a month’s complimentary membership of the academy).

There have been a few changes in the schedule of this week. Jacob is unavailable this week, so he will not be able to give any classes. His Thursday High Level Practical Training class, that was initially scheduled to begin at 12:30 UK time, has been cancelled. Instead, we have added a class with GM Boris Gelfand, who will continue his course, The Tortoise Method. The class will begin at 4:30 PM UK time.

The Three Question Training class that was initially scheduled for Sunday, the 30th of August, at 4 PM UK time, has moved to 10 AM UK time. It will be presented by GM Renier Castellanos.

Markus, a former member of the academy, is organizing an IM norm Round-Robin tournament in Tallinn, Estonia, in November. If anyone is interested, please contact him for more details and a special discount for KCT members. You can find the current list of registered players, as well as Markus’ contact details here.

Eli is playing Sants Open in Barcelona and currently gaining a few rating points after 4 rounds.

Miguel and Alejandro are playing the last round of the Spanish Individual Championship in Linares.

Julen and Renier will head to Linares tomorrow to take part in the Spanish League – Primera Division. Alejandro will also play in the Spanish League and will be Renier’s team-mate in the Granada “SIDN-Civica-Nazaries-Trevenque” team. Julen will be part of the Andreu Paterna team. You can follow all of them starting from Thursday, the 27th of August, here. The top two finishers will qualify for the highest league, Division de Honor.

Andrey Terekhov has just finished playing in the French championship (Accession tournament, the league just below the grandmaster playoffs). The top two finishers qualified to the next year’s main event. It was a very strong event and he finished about in line with his rating. He published a tournament report on his blog and analysed three of his victories in this tournament.

Brendan Lyons will play in the European Senior 50+ Team Chess Championship in Crete. The tournament will start this Thursday, the 27th of August. Good luck to him and his team!

We know that many of you are busy playing. Let us know where you are, so we can follow and root for you!
