Sicilian Najdorf Fundamentals
GM Jacob Aagaard

After building a repertoire in the Sicilian Najdorf over November-January, it is now time to talk about common themes in the opening. As a starting point, this is a sharp counter-attacking opening. We certainly run the risk of losing – and sometimes quickly. But, we can also play for a win in a way those choosing the Petroff or Berlin cannot.

As a starting point this course is planned to be as basic as possible and each class being about 80-90 minutes long. We have planned eight lessons to start, but don’t keep us to it!

Tactics

  1. Typical sacrifices for White
  2. Typical sacrifices for Black
  3. Opposite side castling and pawn storms
  4. Miniatures
  5. Leaving the king in the centre

Strategy

  1. Typical pawn breaks
  2. The …e5 and …e6 pawn structures
  3. Typical endgames

Below you will find the files Jacob shared during the class and underneath the video recordings of the classes.
